Red Lights Over Phoenix, Again!

April 23, 2008

Red Colored Lights Over Phoenix

It’s been about 10 years since Phoenix residents were visited by unexplained red lights. News media are buzzing with reports from sightings, and at least one high quality video.

No official tracking could be found by military or civilian air controllers, and Luke AFB, the nearest Air Force Base, said there were no operations from the base to explain the lights.

Watch our featured video, on the right side column, to hear the frightening reaction of people observing the 1997 lights. This is a scary phenomenon, and not an uncommon thing, for many people living in Phoenix.

Several Phoenix residents have begun documenting these strange occurrences, and they agree that something about Phoenix seems to attract the events. Other UFO investigators say this is a hoax designed to discredit genuine UFO events.

White Dress Ghost Scary Story

Once there was beautiful young girl who was invited to a dance, but her poor family couldn’t afford a brand new dress for the dance, and they really wanted to let their pretty daughter go.

They had almost given up hope when they saw in the window of a pawn shop, a beautiful white dress!

The young girl loved the dress so much that they bought it (it was the only one they could afford anyway), so when the
dance night came, the beautiful girl danced the night away, and had a wonderful time…so far.

She went to bed exhausted that night, she never took off the dress, and she never came downstairs in the morning. When her parents worried they went up to check on her…she was not breathing!

Her father quickly took her to the hospital and he patiently waited to hear that she would recover, she never did,
instead the doctor came out to tell him that her body was infected with embalming fluid and that the dress she had been wearing was contaminated with formaldehyde.

How could it be? The father asked. He later learned that the dress she had been wearing was stolen by a graveyard worker and put up for sale in the pawn shop.

The first girl who owned the dress is dead and the new owner will join her in the graveyard shortly.

Carolyn’s Puppy & Visit from Death

April 8, 2008

SitSalaut by Daniele Montella
Image created by our friend Daniele Montella

Our friend Carolyn was thrilled to get a Cocker puppy for her 11th birthday.

The dog always slept on a little rug in Carolyn’s bedroom.

Carolyn got a terrible fever from an infection after tonsil surgery. It was so bad that she slept most of time and was too weak even to leave her bed for a couple of days. The dog was there every time she awoke, lying on the rug next to her bed.

One night she had a terrible nightmare that death was coming in her door. He looked like Death in all the movies, had a black cloak and glowing eyes, he had no scythe, but he did have bony skeleton fingers that slowly pushed open her door.

She was unable even to breathe as the vision entered her room and moved silently toward her, staring strait into her eyes the entire time.

Carolyn began to pray, not the usual prayers children say, but urgently crying to God for help. Her fear was unbearable.

As the shadow of Death crept across her floor it soon reached her puppy, and the dog whimpered softly, and at that moment Death turned and left.

When Carolyn awoke the next day her puppy was gone. Her mother sadly admitted that her new dog had died during the night with no apparent cause.

The Dance Job

April 6, 2008

Scary Mirror
The Top Hats were a popular band in the 1950s and 60s. “Playing Dance Jobs” (Gigs) in Utah, Wyoming, Idaho and Montana, they did weddings, church and company parties, and especially fraternal club parties like the Elks, Masons, Moose etc.

On one trip to Wyoming (the Top Hats were based in Salt Lake City, Utah) the band had an extremely eerie experience on the way home.

The dance party ended, and after packing their cars with their instruments the band started the long drive home. One band member, Bud, had drunk too much and was very tipsy. As they drove along the lonely road they came upon a single car accident involving a hearse. The driver of the hearse was drunk, and was sitting on the bumper at the back of the hearse, partway inside the open rear door. He was holding his head and rocking back and forth in dismay.

As the men approached him he moaned to them “don’t touch her, don’t touch her!”

Immediately all of their eyes followed the tearful gaze of the hearse driver, which was staring down the embankment to an open coffin with a womans corpse inside, and the top open. A chill went over the group, and incredibly, Bud, the drunk band member approached the coffin.

Before anyone could stop Bud he had the womans cold face cupped in his hands. Over and over he said “Poor lady, you poor lady!” He cried and carried on as though a loved one from his own life was lying in the coffin. The driver had to be restrained while the other men tried to get their friend away from the coffin. The whole thing was a frightening and unforgettable mess.

It was a great relief to everyone when they were able to get the two drunks into a car and get started to a town where they could get some help for the wreck, and the driver. Before long they were at an all night diner and pouring coffee into Bud and the drunk driver. As Bud sobered up he took several trips to the bathroom to wash his hands. He couldn’t believe he had been touching a corpse, and he couldn’t feel clean no matter how often he washed his hands.

On his last trip to the bathroom
, the band members were starting to relax and laugh about what a crazy night they had had. The laughter was interrupted by a flickering and dimming of the lights in the diner. At the same time a shattering scream came from the bathroom.

Everyone ran to the bathroom. Four bodies crowded in the door to see the darkened room with Bud at the sink. He was panting hard, and his face was twisted with terror as he looked at the reflection in the mirror, where he saw not his own face, but the image of a woman glaring back at him!

This story was told by Willard Shingleton, Roberts great grandfather. Willard was a professional drummer for vaudeville, the symphony, and the Top Hats among other bands. He always related this story as true.

This is an actual email sent to us, word for word. It is, of course, an Urban Legend of the classic type, and also a complete fabrication. Please read to the bottom to learn the truth.

This is false. You should simply dial 911, *77 doesn’t connect to anything on my Verizon phone.

My friend Jim, 25 year LA County Deputy hasn’t heard of it. He is asking others for us.

I spoke to Iron County Dispatch, they said (in this area) 911 is central dispatch, in other regions 911 is fragmented.

Officers should, but do not always, radio in an attempted stop. Dispatch said it is not uncommon that a person will call to see if a car is attempting a stop and dispatch (in Iron County) frequently has to verify that there is an officer attempting a stop, in that area, and a car like the one they drive. So they have to stop.

There is nothing wrong with the idea that you check if an unmarked patrol car is attempting a stop.

Simply dial 911 (if you have phone signal). Or simply continue to drive to a gas station or other populated place.

This is a good urban legend/scary story and we will definitely post it at http://scareo.com It’s a variation of the “high beams” story.

It is dangerous to say that “*77 works in all 50 states”, it doesn’t work on Verizon phones in Southern Utah, that’s for sure!

But it is also dangerous BS that could get a person killed. You MUST tell people to dial 911 or learn correct procedures for your own region or regions you visit and frequent. DON’T pass around incorrect information that gives people a false sense of security, and has them trying to dial a fictitious number at a time when 911 is always appropriate, and (as far as I have been able to learn) no other number is.

Any reply is welcome.

This famous urban legend has a ton of variations, two of them are “High Beams” and also “Credit Card”

Credit Card

April 5, 2008

Melanie was stopped at a full service gas station.

She was recently married, to a surgeon, and wanted to feel rich for a change. So she let the attendant wash the window and check the oil, even though the gas was twice as expensive, it was late and she was tired.

After the gas pump stopped the attendant took her credit card into the station to run up the bill. As he ran the card he looked strangely at Melanie and she thought “oh no, he’s going to hit on me, I know it”.

Sure enough, the attendant came to the car a little to casually and asked her to come into the station.

“Why?” she asked.

“There is something wrong on the card and you’ll need to talk to the company about it on the phone.”

“No, there is nothing wrong, my husband is a surgeon, we have plenty of money, and I am not going in there.”

“Please maam, it’ll only take a second.”

Melanie huffed, and opened her door. Suddenly an arm encircled her neck and started to pull her back into the car from the back seat. The attendant smashed the rear window with a tire iron and stabbed at the attacker.

Melanie screamed and bit on the hand of her attacker as police vehicles surrounded the station.

Breathlessly the attendant explained. I saw him trying to hide on the floor of your car ma’am, I didn’t call the credit card company at all, I called 911. I just came out because I was afraid he would attack before they got here.

This story is a variation of the “High Beams” and “*77″ Urban Legend. It has strong supporters who claim that at least one variation is true. This famous urban legend has a ton of variations, a recent one is “*77″ and also “High Beams”

High Beams

April 5, 2008

Janet was driving home on the outskirts of Couer D’ Alene, Idaho. It was late and she was tired from serving dinners all day and most of the night at her table waiting job.

At the last red light, before the road turned to highway, the car behind her hit his lights high beam and low beam over and over. Irritated she blew through the light and sped away into the country section of the highway.

The car followed her, very closely, and on tight curves, or over hills, he would hit his high beams on and off.

Terrified Janet sped through the pines
, over a dirt road she knew well, hoping to put some distance between herself and the menacing tailgater. At the top of a hill near her home she would have car phone signal for only a minute or two. Carefully dialing 911, she held her finger on the “call” button, as the lights blinked again, high and low beams, glaring in her rear window.

Just at the top of the hill she hit “call” button and screamed into the phone “a car is following me on Twin Lakes Road, he is tailgating, and blinking his lights at me!”

Janet gave her address, and in a few minutes she saw red blinking lights following her, she breathed a sigh of relief as she pulled into her driveway, but suddenly the tailgater pulled in tight behind her and savagely blinked rapid fire HIGH, LOW, HIGH, LOW!

Four patrol cars screeched to a stop on Janet’s drive and lawn, they pulled the man out of the tailgater car and spread-eagled him on the lawn. With guns drawn they arrested him as he screamed “There is someone in her car, someone in her car!”

Then a deputy approached Janet to calm her, he suddenly drew his pistol and fired into her back seat, two rounds less than a second apart.

Janet screamed and turned around. The bloody corpse of murderer was in her back seat, still holding the butcher knife intended for her throat. There were duct tape, a hood, and handcuffs lying on the seat next to him.

The tailgater in the grass said, “I blinked my lights every time I saw him raise the knife!”

Really Scary Story (with a twist).

Prince Of Darkness by Daniele Montella

This is one of the scariest stories I have ever read. The site owner here, Rob, is my 13 year old son, and he loves scary stuff. Rob reads books by one Alvin Schwartz, who writes for a younger audience, but he can keep us older folks awake at night, trust me.

According to the American Library Association (visit them here) Alvin Schwartz books, as a series, are the most challenged (request for banning) by parents and guardians from the years 1990 to 2000 (couldn’t find newer records).

Alvin’s collections are urban legends, folk tales, and famous stories throughout American and World history. They are well told stories, extremely well documented, and sited for authenticity and origin. Some of the most scholarly books you can find that you can get a kid to read.

Now, as with our site here, we think you should have “Parental Guidance”, but what the hell! Shouldn’t you always? By the way, if you are concerned about content, we will post anything scary up to what you might consider a soft “R” rating here at Scareo, but we DO NOT think banning books, particularly some of these listed here, is a good idea.

Museum Haunting Details

November 27, 2007

Ancestors of Mormon Pioneers are justifiably proud of the heritage and history of the brave people who settled Utah, Nevada and California in the 1800s.

Museum

Daughters of Utah Pioneers Museum

One terrific organization devoted to preserving that heritage is the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Website for DUP.

Maureen Smith, the vice president of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers took a few minutes to talk with me about the recent ghost sightings at the museum.

On October 10, 2007 Utah Capitol State Police saw an image on the monitors which come from the Daughters of Utah Pioneers Museum.

One of the officers actually took a photo of the image in the monitor, and gave the photo to the Daughters of Utah Pioneers Museum.See the image here.

The monitors are in the Utah Capitol building, and the images come from the cameras in the Museum a few blocks away. State Police watch the monitors, and respond if there appears to be an intruder.

The image appeared four times over an 8 day period, and always appeared between about 11:00 PM and 3:00 AM. During these hours the Museum is closed and empty, no one is inside accept cleaning or maintenance.

During this 8 day period the motion detectors in the Museum were set off several times, and the image appeared 4 times. The ghostly image appeared without setting off motion detectors sometimes, other times motion detectors went off without showing the image.

Each time the image was seen it looked like the same person, and the image always persisted for several minutes.

Capitol State Police are the security for the Museum so they sent Officers to investigate and found the Museum secure each time they saw unusual images or motion detectors went off.

In an interesting side story, the Museum Director speculates that she may know who it is in the image. She thinks it could be the ghost of a girl who made a sampler that was on display in the museum.

20 Years ago the “sampler” was stolen from the Museum. A “sampler” is an embroidered piece of cloth that students of embroidery used to prove that they knew all of their stitches, because the cloth had a ’sample’ of every stitch.

A Museum staffer recognized the Sampler listed for sale on eBay, and that staffer contacted eBay, and sent documentation that the item was stolen, so eBay contacted seller. The eBay seller, who’s family had purchased the sampler in good faith years earlier, immediately returned the sampler to Daughters of Utah Pioneers.

During the interval of the images appearing to the State Police, and the return of the sampler, a Custodian reported that on one night he saw a young lady, dressed in black, sitting on a bench in the museum foyer.

The custodian explained that the museum was closed and she must leave, he unlocked and opened the front door for her, she never spoke but arose and walked out the door, BUT NOT DOWN THE STEPS! The girl floated above the steps, and sidewalk, until she disappeared!
